The Mid Atlantic MRA chapter hosted about 70 guests and speakers on April 27, 2012 for a day of discussion and networking about topics relevant to marketing researchers and marketers.
Some of the highlights of the day included:
Dr. Arnold Jackson, Associate Director of the Decennial Census, shared information about demographic shifts seen in the 2010 Census, how this data is supplemented by annual American Community Survey, and how people can find easy to use maps, charts, and data sets at www.census.gov
MRA CEO David Almy stressed the importance of the association's legislative efforts to protect the market research industry. He cited an example of how the association was fighting an effort by one state to collect unemployment taxes on honorariums paid to survey and focus group participents.
Chapter President Jorge Restrepo officially launched the chapter's search for the 2012-2013 Board. Nominations will be accepted until June 15, the election period that will run to mid-July, and the induction ceremony will be held in late August.
Director of Public Sector Research at Ipsos/Synovate Cliff Young revealed how Ipsos combats declining response rates and participation from opt-in panels by partnering with social media sites. Through these sites, they are collect responses to survey that fill demographic gaps in panels and locate individuals in difficult-to-find demographics or sub-populations.
